Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Unlikely To Travel To India Amid Strained Ties
Mohsin Naqvi has not been invited to attend the IPL final in Ahmedabad and is expected to join the upcoming ICC Board meeting virtually, according to reports.
The International Cricket Council is scheduled to hold its annual Board of Directors meeting on the sidelines of the IPL final at the Narendra Modi Stadium later this month.
Sources quoted in reports said Naqvi will participate in the ICC discussions through video conferencing instead of travelling to India.
Conflicting Reports Emerged Earlier
Earlier, a Pakistan Cricket Board spokesperson had claimed that the ICC had invited Mohsin Naqvi for both the IPL final and the ICC meeting in Ahmedabad.
The spokesperson had also stated that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would decide whether Naqvi should travel to India.
However, fresh reports now suggest that Naqvi was not invited to the IPL final itself and will only attend the ICC meeting virtually.
India-Pakistan Cricket Relations Continue To Remain Tense
The development comes amid continued diplomatic and cricketing tensions between India and Pakistan.
The two countries have not played a bilateral cricket series since 2008, with encounters restricted mainly to ICC and Asian Cricket Council tournaments.
Relations between the cricket boards have also worsened over venue disputes and political disagreements in recent years.
Champions Trophy And Asia Cup Added To Tensions
The cricketing relationship between the two neighbours faced further strain during preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after India refused to send its team to Pakistan.
The ICC later adopted a hybrid model, shifting India’s matches to neutral venues.
Tensions reportedly escalated again during the Asia Cup after controversy surrounding the trophy presentation ceremony involving Mohsin Naqvi following India’s title win.
ICC Board Meeting To Proceed During IPL Final
The ICC Board meeting remains scheduled to take place alongside the IPL final in Ahmedabad and is expected to involve discussions on global cricket governance, tournament planning and administrative matters.
While several international cricket administrators are expected to attend physically, Mohsin Naqvi is now likely to remain absent from the IPL final event.
