NCB Cracks Major International Drug Network Under ‘Operation Ragepill’
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday announced a major anti-drug breakthrough after the Narcotics Control Bureau seized India’s first-ever consignment of Captagon, a highly dangerous synthetic narcotic often referred to internationally as the “Jihadi Drug”.
According to officials, the seized consignment is valued at nearly Rs 182 crore.
The operation, conducted under the codename Operation Ragepill, also led to the arrest of a foreign national allegedly linked to the international drug network.
Amit Shah Praises Agencies After Massive Drug Bust
Sharing details of the operation on X, Amit Shah said the seizure reflects the government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics trafficking.
“Glad to share that through Operation Ragepill, our agencies have achieved the first-ever seizure of Captagon, the so-called ‘Jihadi Drug’, worth Rs 182 crore,” Shah wrote.
He added that the drug consignment was allegedly destined for the Middle East.
What Is Captagon?
Captagon is a highly addictive amphetamine-based synthetic drug that has gained global attention due to its alleged use in conflict zones and terror networks in parts of the Middle East.
The narcotic is known for producing extreme stimulation, aggression and reduced fatigue, which has led to its controversial reputation as a “combat drug” in several international conflicts.
Global enforcement agencies have repeatedly flagged Captagon trafficking as a major organised crime and security concern.
India Reiterates ‘Zero Tolerance’ Against Drugs
Amit Shah said the Modi government remains committed to building a “Drug-Free India” and warned that authorities would continue cracking down aggressively on drug trafficking networks.
“I repeat, we will clamp down on every gram of drugs entering India or leaving the country using our territory as a transit route,” Shah said.
The Home Minister also praised the Narcotics Control Bureau and security agencies involved in the operation for their vigilance and coordination.
Operation Seen As Major International Crackdown
Officials believe the seizure could expose a larger transnational narcotics network operating across multiple countries.
The interception of Captagon is being viewed as particularly significant because the drug has rarely been detected in India before.
Security agencies are now reportedly investigating possible international links connected to the seized consignment.
Government Intensifying Anti-Narcotics Operations
The seizure comes amid a wider crackdown by Indian agencies against organised drug trafficking and smuggling routes.
Over the past few years, Indian authorities have significantly increased seizures of narcotics, including heroin, methamphetamine and synthetic drugs moving through international maritime and land routes.
The government has repeatedly stated that narcotics trafficking poses both a law enforcement and national security challenge.
NCB Continues High-Profile Drug Crackdowns
The Narcotics Control Bureau has intensified surveillance and intelligence-based operations targeting international drug syndicates operating through India.
Officials say Operation Ragepill is one of the most significant recent seizures involving synthetic narcotics with possible international terror-financing links.
Investigations into the case are currently underway.
