Twisha Sharma Death Was Suicide, Says Bhopal Police Commissioner Amid Ongoing Dowry Harassment Probe

Top cop says post-mortem and forensic evidence point to suicide; investigation now focused on circumstances behind death

Twisha Sharma died by suicide, Sanjay Kumar said on Wednesday, citing post-mortem and forensic findings in the high-profile case that has triggered allegations of dowry harassment and foul play.

Addressing the media, the Bhopal Police Commissioner said the post-mortem report clearly identified the cause of death as “ante-mortem hanging”, indicating that the death occurred due to suicide.

Police Investigating What Led To Suicide

While confirming the medical findings, the Commissioner said the investigation is now focused on understanding the circumstances that allegedly pushed Twisha to take the extreme step.

He stressed that the police are examining the matter strictly from the angle of suicide while continuing to investigate allegations raised by the family.

Police Deny External Pressure

Responding to allegations that the investigation was being influenced, the Commissioner denied any external pressure on the police and said the department was acting independently.

He pointed out that although police guidelines allow up to one month for FIR registration in such cases, an FIR was lodged within two days of the incident.

Probe Ordered Into Handling Of Forensic Evidence

The Commissioner also addressed concerns regarding the handling of the ligature material seized during the investigation.

He said a separate enquiry has been initiated after questions were raised over why the forensic science laboratory sent the material to AIIMS Bhopal after the post-mortem process.

However, he added that the forensic examination of the material matched the findings of the autopsy report.

Police Open To Second Post-Mortem

The Bhopal Police Commissioner said authorities have no objection if the family seeks a second post-mortem examination.

Twisha’s family has been demanding a fresh autopsy at AIIMS Delhi and has repeatedly alleged harassment, foul play and destruction of evidence.

Raids Underway To Arrest Husband

Meanwhile, police teams are conducting raids to arrest Samarth Singh, who is facing allegations linked to dowry harassment and abuse.

Commenting on the delay in the arrest, the Commissioner said some accused are apprehended quickly while others take more time, but expressed confidence that Samarth would soon be taken into custody.

Reiterating the police stand, the Commissioner maintained that both medical and forensic evidence conclusively indicate suicide.
