BJP Releases List Of 43 Properties Allegedly Linked To Abhishek Banerjee; TMC Calls Document ‘Fake’
A fresh political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after the state BJP circulated a list claiming that 43 properties in Kolkata are allegedly linked to Abhishek Banerjee, his relatives and close associates.
The document, which has now gone viral on social media, allegedly contains details of properties located in several prime areas of Kolkata. According to BJP leaders, many of the properties are either directly linked to Abhishek Banerjee or jointly owned with family members and associates.
However, the Trinamool Congress has strongly denied the allegations and dismissed the list as “fake”, “misleading” and politically motivated.
Saayoni Ghosh Rejects Property Link Allegation
One of the names mentioned in the circulated list was “Sayani Ghosh”, leading to speculation online that it referred to Saayoni Ghosh, the Jadavpur MP.
The property mentioned in the document was reportedly located at Seven Tanks Lane in Kolkata.
Responding to the controversy, Saayoni Ghosh denied having any connection with the property and accused people of attempting to defame her.
In a social media post, she said she came from a humble background and had not accumulated wealth through politics. She also warned of legal action against those spreading what she called false information.
BJP Plans Detailed Probe
Sources said the BJP government intends to conduct a detailed investigation into the ownership of the properties, including the source of funds used for their purchase and whether any irregularities were involved.
The list is said to have been sourced from records of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, which remains under Trinamool Congress control and is headed by Mayor Firhad Hakim.
However, critics pointed out that the document only mentions the name “Abhishek Banerjee” and does not specifically identify whether the properties belong to the Diamond Harbour MP.
TMC Calls Document ‘Political Propaganda’
The Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of running a politically motivated smear campaign following recent political developments in the state.
The party said journalists and the public should independently verify the addresses and ownership details instead of blindly amplifying BJP allegations.
Former TMC Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale also questioned the authenticity of the document, calling it a “hoax” and arguing that multiple individuals could share the same name.
Row Comes After KMC Notices To Abhishek-Linked Properties
The controversy comes just a day after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation issued notices to 17 properties allegedly linked to Abhishek Banerjee over claims of unauthorised construction.
Among the properties reportedly served notices was “Shantiniketan” on Harish Mukherjee Road, said to be associated with the TMC MP.
The civic body sought documents related to building approvals and installations such as lifts and escalators. It also warned that illegal structures could face demolition if violations were confirmed.
Suvendu Adhikari Targets TMC No. 2
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari intensified the attack on Tuesday, alleging that several properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee were registered under his company, Leaps and Bounds, as well as in the names of family members.
Adhikari claimed that multiple properties were registered under the names of Abhishek Banerjee, his father and his company.
‘I Won’t Bow Down’: Abhishek Hits Back
Hours after the allegations surfaced, Abhishek Banerjee responded defiantly at a press conference, accusing the BJP of political vendetta.
He said he would not be intimidated even if authorities demolished his house or sent repeated notices.
The latest flashpoint adds to the escalating political battle between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress, with the opposition alleging large-scale irregularities under the previous Mamata Banerjee government.
