“No Military Solution,” Says Iranian Foreign Minister in New Delhi
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that India can play a more significant and constructive role in promoting peace in West Asia, as tensions continue to rise across the region.
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi during his visit for a BRICS-related meeting, he stressed that diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable solutions to the ongoing regional conflicts involving Iran.
He also said Iran would welcome any meaningful initiative by India aimed at restoring stability in the region.
Iran Expresses Trust Deficit With United States
Araghchi also strongly criticised the United States, saying that lack of trust remains the biggest obstacle in diplomatic efforts.
He stated that Iran has “no trust in Americans” and argued that past actions by Washington have deepened tensions.
According to him, Iran has reasons to distrust the US, while questioning why Washington should doubt Tehran’s position in ongoing geopolitical negotiations.
Strait of Hormuz Situation Described as “Very Complicated”
The Iranian foreign minister also commented on the strategic Strait of Hormuz, calling the situation in the region “very complicated” due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.
However, he assured that Iran remains willing to support safe and smooth maritime traffic through the waterway, which is a critical route for global oil shipments.
He said ensuring stability in the Strait is essential for global energy security and regional economic balance.
Pakistan Mediation and China’s Role
On diplomatic mediation efforts, Araghchi said Pakistan’s initiative has not failed but continues to face challenges due to mutual distrust between involved parties.
He also appreciated China’s diplomatic role, saying Beijing has previously helped restore ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia and could again contribute to peace efforts.
Iran, he said, values its strategic partnership with China and would welcome any further efforts from Beijing to support negotiations and reduce tensions in the region.
Iran Reaffirms Nuclear Position
Reiterating Tehran’s long-standing stance, Araghchi said Iran has never pursued nuclear weapons and remains committed to a negotiated settlement for resolving regional disputes.
He emphasised that continued dialogue remains the only practical path toward lasting peace and stability in West Asia.
